GoC Northern Commander explore operation needs of soldiers

Keeping the requirements and operational needs of the command in mind, General Officer Commanding in Chief (GoC-In-C), Northern Command, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi on Wednesday visited Defence expo 2022, in Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat.

Official sources said that Army commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi witnessed various demonstrations of weaponry and equipment displayed during the Asia’s biggest ever Defence Expo, where 75 nations among 1,340 Indian firms are showcasing their equipment’s and technology up-gradations ,which will be prove lethal for operational needs of armed forces.

“The commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi participated in demonstrations showcasing the equipment and skill set of the Armed Forces,” sources said, adding, “The operational demonstrations include search and rescue missions, which is a very important operational part of the army in Northern Command”.

The Army commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi also witnessed the growing prowess of the domestic defence industry, one of the major drivers of the nation’s resolve to achieve ‘Make in India’.

“Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, General Officer Commanding in Chief attended the Defence Expo 2022, Asia’s Largest Defence Exhibition at Gujarat,” a defence spokesperson informed.

The army commander reviewed niche technologies and indigenous capacities with operational dynamics and requirements of Northern Command in mind,” the spokesperson maintained.

Earlier in May this year Northern Command hosted North Tech Symposium to identify cutting-edge technologies it needed for solving operational challenges.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi said that the seminar will pave the way to identify suitable technologies and products for subsequent trials and inductions into the command. He said the Ministry of Defence has set a target for indigenous defence manufacturing of items worth USD 25 billion, including an export target of USD 5 billion, by 2025.

Furthermore officials added that Northern Command is most actively engaged in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir besides strategic areas in eastern Ladakh. The area under Command has become a perfect lab for testing indigenous products.

Pertinently, India is hosting the biggest-ever defence exhibition–Def Expo 2022– from October 18 to 22. First three days were reserved for business and officials while from 21 and 22, the Expo will be open for the general public.
