Union Minister Rijiju discusses J&K, history with Karan Singh
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju and senior Congress leader Karan Singh met here on Monday and discussed Jammu and Kashmir and history.
The meeting between the two came days after Rijiju had attacked Singh over the events preceding Kashmir’s accession. Rijiju has been critical India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru over the Kashmir issue.
“I had a worthwhile discussion with former Regent, Sadar-i-Riyasat and Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Dr. Karan Singh.
“At 36, Dr. Karan Singh became the youngest Cabinet Minister in 1967,” Rijiju tweeted sharing pictures of their meeting.
“We spent some quality time having t te- -t te about his life, Jammu & Kashmir and history,” the minister said.
The Lok Sabha member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Arunachal Pradesh had earlier this month hit out at Hari Singh’s son Karan Singh, saying he presented a “sanitized history, resorted to poor wordplay, and, that too, in a roundabout way to somehow extricate Nehru” on the then prime minister allegedly delaying the accession of Kashmir.
In another tweet, Union Law Minister Lauds Manoj Sinha for implementing welfare schemes with full devotion.
“Nice meeting Lt. Governor of Jammu & Kashmir Manoj Sinha. He has very sincerely with full devotion taken forward and implemented the welfare schemes and programs initiated by hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the people of J&K,” he wrote in twitter.
In one more tweet, Kiren Rijiju said that he had wonderful meeting Padma Bhushan Muzaffar Hussain Baig.
“Glad to meet very erudite gentleman, Former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Padma Bhushan Muzaffar Hussain Baig,” he wrote on Twitter.
He further that record number of tourist visiting in Jammu and Kashmir due overall positive change in the Union Territory.
It is pertinent mention here that the Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a tourist footfall of 1.62 crore for the first time in the history of 75 years of independent India.
This enhanced tourism in the Union Territory has generated the greatest employment in various regions, thus highlighting its overall development through a constructive approach, transformative initiatives and inevitable reforms to empower J-K for its people, culture and society.
Ever since the abrogation of Article 370, ample changes have taken place in the region.
The tourism industry in the Union Territory has been allocated Rs 786 crore, which has witnessed remarkable achievements including a significant uptick in profit generation over the last few months.
This significant boost of 184 per cent (as compared to the last year’s allocated fund) has a lot to do with the betterment of infrastructural facilities in the region.
Despite the noise and attention that the region has attracted over the last few decades, basic infrastructural support and connectivity measures were never prioritised. In the last few years, rapid strides have been made in the arena of infrastructure and social development of the region and its people.
