Facing staff crunch, GMC-J makes temporary arrangements for 6 posts
Facing hurdles to deliver quality health services due to staff crunch in a premier health institution Government Medical College Jammu (GMC-J) and its associated hospitals, the Health & Medical Education was compelled to make temporary arrangements to ensure smooth functioning.
In a temporary arrangement, the health and medical department has posted doctors from the health department on such posts in these hospitals.
As per latest seniority list of medical superintendents and deputy medical superintendents issued by health and medical education department key such posts are lying vacant.
As per the seniority list out of 11 sanctioned posts of medical superintendents and deputy medical superintendents in Government Medical College Jammu and Associate Hospitals Jammu, only five are filled while six are lying vacant.
Moreover the key post of medical superintendent Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu too is occupied by the doctor from the health department. As deputy superintendent SMGS Hospital Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma has challenged the posting of Dr. Narinder Singh Bhutyal as medical superintendent Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu of him being junior.
Out of five sanctioned posts of medical superintendents in GMCH and Associated Hospitals and only three are filled. While one of the filled post of Dr Yashpaul Sharma in a sense is also vacant as he is currently holding the charge of director new medical colleges. Other two medical superintendents currently posted include Dr Manoj Chalotra and Dr Dara Singh.
While out of six posts of deputy medical superintendents only two are filled including Dr. Rehana Khurshid and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma.
Issuing the final Seniority list of Medical Superintendents and Deputy Medical Superintendents, Government Medical College, Jammu, as on December 31, 2022, the health and medical education department in its order has stated that the sonority list was issued in the year 2013 and since then various Deputy Medical Superintendents have been promoted/regularized on the higher positions on the recommendations of the DPC/JKPSC and some members have been appointed on the recommendations of J&K PSC.
A tentative seniority list was notified vide notification issued under endorsement No. ME-Gztd/189/2022 dated 16.12.2022 for inviting objections, if any, from Medical Superintendent/Deputy Medical Superintendent of Government Medical College, Jammu within a period of 21 days, through Principal, Government Medical College, Jammu.
In response an objection was received from Principal, Government Medical College, Jammu, which has been examined by the Department and accordingly correction/ change wherever required, on the basis of objection, was incorporated in the seniority list. Now, therefore, final/updated seniority of Medical Superintendents/ Deputy Medical Superintendent of Government Medical College, Jammu as it stood on 31.12.2022.
