8000 tenants verified in Jammu, 40 FIRs registered for violating DM’s order
Hiding information relating to tenants would cost heavily as police have initiated aggressive verification drives in this connection in district Jammu and even have lodged 40 FIRs for violating District Magistrate’s order.
District Magistrate Jammu Avny Lavasa, on January 10 through a notification made it mandatory for the landlords to share details of their tenants with concerned Police Stations within three days.
“Eight thousand tenants in district Jammu have been verified by District Police Jammu while forty FIRs are registered in different police stations for violation of District Magistrate’s order.
SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli, IPS, has issued directions to Station House Officers, SHOs, to lodge FIRs against those landlords who took the District Magistrate’s order otherwise and showed laxities to share information about their tenants to police despite elapse of seven days of the issuance of order ”, a police officer told.
District Commissioner Jammu Anvy Lavasa ordered tenants verifications on the basis of inputs that the terrorists could seek hideouts in the residential areas. The order which was issued ahead of Republic Day, urged owners of properties, attorney holders, persons in-charge of properties in any capacity to submit without fail the detailed particulars of the tenants, domestic helps within three days.
As per order, the declaration form (for the purpose of verification) should be signed by both the owner and the tenants and should be submitted to the concerned Police Station, either in person or by registered post addressed to the concerned Station House Officer (SHO).
The order which had been issued by the DM Jammu using powers vested in her under section 144 of CrPC stated “Whereas, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu has brought to the notice that there is an imminent need to conduct verification of tenants/domestic helpers as there have been instances of anti-national/anti-social elements seeking hideouts in the residential areas in the guise of tenants/domestic helpers; and whereas, it is necessary that some measures be taken to make the landlords/property owners accountable before renting out/making available their premises to tenants/domestic helps.
Whereas, I consider the threat posed by such adverse elements as imminent danger to public safety and security, that warrants immediate preventive measures under Section 144 of CrPC. All owners shall after the issuance of this order within 03 days submit without fail the detailed particulars of the tenant(s) as per the Declaration Form (annexed herewith), to be signed by both the owner and the tenant(s), to the concerned Police Station, either in person or by registered post addressed to the concerned Station House Officer (SHO)”.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police will carry out verification of inhabitants living in close proximity of the International Border in Samba district and ensure that no outsider movement goes unchecked, officials said on Tuesday.
A direction to this effect was conveyed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Samba, Benam Tosh to in-charges of border outposts at a high-level security review meeting, they said.
The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ will enter Jammu and Kashmir on January 19 and pass through Samba district as well, the officials said.
The Samba SSP directed the officers to verify the identities of inhabitants of border areas in their jurisdictions and ensure that no movement of any outsider goes unchecked, they said.
At the meeting, Tosh laid emphasis on better coordination and synergy among all agencies concerned, especially during the Republic Day celebrations in areas situated along the IB.
The officers were further directed to strengthen checkpoints on highway as well as on border roads in addition to organising joint surprise checkpoints at selected places, the officials added.
There was discussion on the present security scenario and the officers were advised to mobilise all available resources to generate actionable intelligence and conduct regular mock exercises in the border areas and strategic locations.
