Nifty closes below 19,000 mark while Sensex ends below 63,600 points; Overall market breadth in negative territory
Today, the key domestic stock indices ended on a negative note for the second session in a row. Nifty closed below the 19,000 mark while Sensex ended below 63,600 points as weak manufacturing data weighed on the investors’ sentiments.
In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index declined 0.35 percent and the Small-cap index also slipped 0.10 percent.
In the Sensex index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of 25 companies declined while only five stocks ended in green.
Asian Paints declined two percent, Tata Steel fell 1.80 percent and Nestle India slipped 1.60 percent.
On the other hand, Sun Pharma jumped 2.5 percent, Bajaj Finserv rose half a percent and Reliance Industries ended with a 0.35 percent gain.
In sectoral indices at the BSE, 16 sectors ended in red while 4 logged gains. The metal sector declined 1.45 percent. The power and energy sectors both ended with over one percent loss.
On the other side, the Realty sector jumped over 1.50 percent, Telecommunication gained over one percent and the Oil and Gas sector rose 0.35 percent.
The overall market breadth was in negative territory as shares of 2,011 companies declined while those of 1,637 companies gained. A total of 135 shares remained unchanged.
