20 smart booths coming up for traffic cops in Phase-I

While the winter capital is witnessing major reformation and development under Smart City Project, the traffic police will also get smart under the project with the establishment of smart booths coming up soon at around 20 identified locations.

Police sources said that the traffic police, which operates the traffic system in the city, will also be also equipped with modern facilities under the Smart City Project.

“An exercise has already been started to protect the police personnel from extreme weather conditions while on duty,” sources said.

They said that preparations are being made to build new traffic booths at the square intersections of the city for the traffic personnel and all best possible facilities will be made available to them in these booths.

“The temperature in the smart booths will be operated according to the weather conditions and apart from this, arrangements for toilets will also be made available for them inside the booths,” they said.

Presently, the traffic personnel posted at different checkpoints at various square intersections of the city are forced to take shelter in damaged booths and often in rain or in extreme hot weather conditions, police personnel protect themselves with the help of readily available facilities, they said adding, “the booths at present even do not have adequate seating arrangements.”

“The facility will surely be giving some relief to the traffic personnel,” said an official.
He said that in the first phase, smart traffic booths are to be set up at 20 locations identified by the traffic department.

“The entire cost of making the booths will be borne under the Smart City Project. After this, new booths will come up in the second phase. The booths will be pre-fabricated so that they do not get affected by the weather,” he added.
