Noose tightening around corrupt elements in J&K
After becoming a union territory, there has been a two fold increase in the action against corrupt elements in Jammu and Kashmir.
Whether it was the Anti corruption Bureau or the CBI-both the investigating agencies have unearthed the scams worth crores of rupees by registering big cases of corruption.
One of the main cases were the three thousand illegal appointments in Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Multi-crore J&K Bank loan scam. The CBI also registered a case of illegal complex in the name of former minister Lal Singh’s wife.
In 2019, a case of three thousand illegal appointments was unearthed. A case was registered against Mushtaq Ahmed, former chairman of JK Bank and others in the Cooperative department scam- In 2020, the chairman of the cooperative bank issued a fake loan of Rs.223 crore to the Srinagar River Jhelum Society. This society was non-existent. A case was registered against the chairman of the bank.
In the HUDCO Housing 1000 crore scam in 2021, a loan of one thousand crore was given and its money was siphoned on a large scale. The government land was encroached upon and it was sold. A case was registered against the officials of the Housing Corporation.
Rice export scam-Rice export scam involving Rs.1100 Crore came to the fore in 2019. In this scam, cases were registered against many officers of JK Bank.
Aman Hospitality-The firm was given a loan of Rs.270 crore from JK Bank and the cases were registered the officers of JK Bank.
According to the information, after the formation of UT, ACB has registered 153 FIRs in Jammu and Kashmir. From October, 2019 to December 31, 2019, 14 FIRs were registered. In this, 10 cases are registered in Jammu and four in Kashmir. In 2020, 71 FIRs were registered, of these, there are 33 in Jammu and 38 in Kashmir. So far in 2021, 27 FIRs have been registered in Jammu and 56 in Kashmir. Whereas in 2018, there were only 35 FIRs in the entire state, 33 in 2017 and 23 in 2016. Moreover ACB is getting six thousand complaints every year, which were earlier around two thousand.
As per CBI spokesman-CBI has registered 23 FIRs in J&K after the formation of UT, whereas earlier the CBI had the power to take action only in the central departments. Now CBI can take action on every government department of the state without any permission. CBI is now getting more than 200 complaints every year which used to be 20 to 30 earlier.
