Dense fog grips Jammu, flights ops remain hit

The flight operations on Friday remained hit due to dense fog from Jammu Airport, an official of Airport Authority of India here said.

He said that a thick blanket of fog gripped the Jammu early morning on Friday thus hampering the airline operation.

The official said that the GoAir first flight which was scheduled to land at Jammu Airport at 7.35 am was late by 3 hours 45 minutes and arrived at 11:13 am.

Apart from this, SpiceJet’s flight coming from Delhi also arrived late by one hour and 32 minutes and reached at 10.50 am while IndiGo’s flight coming from Delhi landed at Jammu airport at 10.41 am instead of 9.35 am.
The official further said that Air India flight from Leh to Jammu was also delayed by 2 hours 49 minutes its scheduled time of 10.15 am to and landed at 1:13 pm.

The departure of the flight was scheduled for 11.20 am, but due to late arrival, the flight took off at 2 pm.
He said that the arrival and departure of airlines remained hit due to fog, adding, “the Jammu airport is equipped to facilitate landing amidst fog and planes can be landed in the visibility of 800 meters but if the visibility is poor, then the landing has to be delayed.”

“As soon as the fog started to subside, the landing and departure of airplanes commenced though the operation remained hit for quite some time,” he added.

Meanwhile a MeT official said that Thursday night was recorded season’s coldest night of this season in Jammu.
However, the Katra-Sanjichhat helicopter service was also affected due to foggy conditions.
