Poonch becomes J&K’s 1st fully vaccinated distt

Heads and shoulders above the national figures of vaccinating its eligible population with anti-COVID vaccine, the Jammu and Kashmir has added another feather into its cap after the Poonch became the first district in the UT to fully vaccinate its entire adult population.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has termed the achievement by the Poonch district as a momentous. In a Tweet, LG said, “Congratulations to the medical fraternity & Covid warriors of district Poonch @PoonchDm for administering the second vaccine dose to 100% of the adult population. It is a momentous achievement.
While reviewing J&K’s COVID-19 situation, LG said, “Due to surge in cases of new variant Omicron worldwide, we need to have tough measures in place to prevent contagion”. He directed the Civil and Police administrations across the UT to ensure that everyone follows Covid-appropriate behaviour.

Sinha further asked the district administrations to carry out analysis of Covid trend in their respective districts and identify the reasons of surge to deploy effective strategies. He impressed upon the optimal utilization of RTPCR tests and accelerated vaccination drive as top priority. The Lt Governor asked the Divisional commissioners to keep a close vigil and continuously monitor the emerging situation.

Meanwhile, the Poonch district officials have said that the feat was achieved due to the union government’s ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ vaccination campaign, under which they are also doing door-to-door vaccinations. Earlier on December 11, Poonch had administered 100% first dose and 96% second dose.

Clearly knowing that anti-COVID vaccine is the only weapon right now to contain the deadly virus which has brought the entire world on the edge in last one and half years , the Jammu and Kashmir had done exceedingly well by fully vaccinating about 90% of its population. Meanwhile, as per latest figures from COWIN-100% of J&K’s eligible population has been vaccinated with the first dose and about 90 % has been vaccinated with the second dose. This is heads and shoulders above the National figures of 87% -first dose and 55.52%-second dose(Dec 15). India has been able to vaccinate 87% of its adult population with at least one dose, and at the same time, 55.2% of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated. Moreover 59,856 doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across J&K to1,75,06,578. In J&K 78,63,441 souls have been fully vaccinated in the UT so far. While 96,99,778 males and 78,14,118 women folk have received vaccine shots so far.

Himachal Pradesh was the first state among all states and UTs to fully vaccinate all of its adult population.
So far highest 21,32,399 doses have been administered in Jammu district, including 12,01,289 with first and 9,31,110 souls have been fully vaccinated in the winter capital of the UT.

The vaccination drive among the 45+ group started on January 16 with first health care workers and front line workers inoculated first, while the jabs for the citizens above 18 age group commenced from June 1.
Meanwhile even as Jammu and Kashmir braces for Omicron, the Jammu and Kashmir reported 136 fresh cases and two fresh fatalities from both Jammu and Kashmir regions on Friday. While 96 cases were reported from Kashmir region while 40 fresh cases are from Jammu division, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 339540.

Moreover, 121 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 32from Jammu Division and 89 from Kashmir Division.

The Bulletin informs that no new case of Mucormycosis has been reported today, thus the total number of confirmed cases remains 50 across J&K. Out of 339540 positive cases, 1448are Active Positive (365 in Jammu Division and 1083in Kashmir Division), 333582 have recovered and 4510 have died; 2193 in Jammu division and 2317in Kashmir division.
