Govt to bring block level governance under e-office
With an objective to deliver public services at the doorsteps of common citizens, the Jammu and Kashmir e-Governance Agency (JaKeGA) is gearing up to bring the entire government machinery under the ambit of ‘e-office’ initiative.
Official sources told that the agency has already brought over 265 Head of Departments (HODs) including District Commissioners (DCs) under ‘e-office mode’ and is working to further its reach to the District and Panchayat level in the coming year.
“We have made the functioning of the entire secretariat in e-office mode. Now, in our next step, we are currently remodeling the Departments and working to bring District and Block-level governance in e-office mode so that the entire government functioning is structured online”, said Amit Sharma, CEO JaKeGA.
The process of ‘e-office mode’ includes scanning of documents, metadata entry and e-file migration. User IDs are created for the officials so they can upload or track the file remotely through a secure VPN (Virtual Private Network), ensuring transparency in the process and enabling them to work remotely.
It is pertinent to note that, all the files and officials were physically moved between Srinagar and Jammu during the darbar move in at least 300 trucks, costing approximately Rs.250 crores to the exchequer.
Amit Sharma said, “Our objective is to reach a level where there is minimal interface between the public and the government and everything happens in an online manner. Be it payments, filling up of application forms, filing any documents whatever may be the need, the citizen should have that access. In this manner, we will achieve 100% transparency, curb the pilferage and put a stop on harassment faced by citizens, as it used to be earlier.”
JaKeGA, which functions under the guidance of the IT department has been tasked to implement e-governance projects in Jammu and Kashmir with the primary objective to bring delivery of services at the doorsteps of common citizens.
