Balkrishen Sanyasi; the eminent Kashmiri Pandit writer and poet reveals his passion for literature and his life journey to The Right News in TheRightConversation

Jammu, March 27, 2022: Bal Mukund Vaishnavi popularly known as Balkrishen Sanyasi belongs to
Sheshyar Mohalla, Habba Kadal and belongs to a renowned family of Pt Amanath Vaishnavi who was
conferred with the title of father of the Kashmiri pandit community for his tremendous contribution
to the society in general and Kashmiri pandits in particular.

Pt Amarnath Vaishnavi was the uncle of Balmukund Vaishnavi popularly known as Balkrishen
Sanyasi.

His father Pt Gopi Nath Vaishanvi was also a literary figure and used to write stories and Dramas in
Hindi while his uncle famous Pt Amarnath Vaishnavi was not only a renowned social activist but also
an artist who used to draw paintings etc. and thus had a literary connection since birth.

His literary influence was strengthened by not only his family but by his neighbours like Ghulam
Rasool Santosh who was an authority on Shavisim and a great poet besides Master Zinda Koul
popularly known as Master ji who was the first person to receive Sahitya Academny award for
Kashmir language and Pt Dina Nath Koul Nadim another eminent Kashmiri Poet.

Talking about his foray into the literature Sanyasi says that these literary personalities of the area
established Hindu Hugh School Badiyar in 1931 and Sanyasi too joined the same school and was
influenced by Bhagwat Geeta.

He says that he came to conclusion after reading the Bhagwat Geeta that one who lives in a social
and family life but still remains aloof from the pushes and pulls of the family life is a Sanyasi and thus
decided to adopt the name Sanyasi which remained etched with his name till date.

Sanyasi gives credit of introducing him to formal literature to Dina Nath Nadim who encouraged him
along with a couple of other students to literature and their photographs were published alongwith
their writings in Tamir journal published by Information department under caption “Aaj Ke bachey
Kal Ke Adeeb”.

Balkrishen Sanyasi feels that it was the trigger they needed to get involved in the literature and adds
that while other students rose to eminent positions in police, art and other fields he remained stuck
to literature.

He further reveals that he participated in Nadim’s opera Neki Badi in which they played characters
and were also encouraged by giving awards to the students thus developing keen interest in
literature.

He says that he was greatly influenced by Nadim and his Kashmiri poetry as it developed a deep love
for the language in his heart and mind as Nadim was rich in weaving words and vocabulary.

Sanyasi who is a post graduate in Political Science Later he joined SP College where he remained
joint secretary of Hindi Adhyan Kendra and Jt. Secretary of Bazm-e-Adam besides editor of Kashmiri
Section of “Pratap” college journal.
