COVID Active caseload passes 300 mark
With 56 new cases on Sunday, the active caseload in Jammu and Kashmir has breached 300 mark while one fatality has pushed the death toll 4,756.
Among fresh cases, 43 reported from Jammu division and 13 recorded from Kashmir region.
“The death toll due to the virus in the union territory stood at 4,756 as one COVID19-related fatality was reported in the past 24 hrs., they said, adding that presently there are total 321 active cases,” official told The News Now.
Meanwhile, total number of recoveries till Sunday stood at 4,49,721.
Total 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the union territory so far, they added.
From 97 overall cases in the union territory from June 5-14, the infections shot up to 304 from June 15-24, an analysis of daily official health data revealed. Three deaths were reported in the last 10 days while no death was witnessed before that for around two months.
Ironically, the cases are increasing without any substantial increase in the testing rate.
The region conducted 97,897 tests from June 5-14 while 98,954 tests were done from June 15-24. The test positivity rate for the last 10 days has increased to 0.30% from 0.09% for 10 days before that.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta stressed upon the health officers to take every measure to restrict the spread of covid-19 here in the UT.
He asked them to intensify the tracing, testing and inoculation of precautionary dose to people especially to those with comorbid conditions.
He made these remarks in a high level meeting of health officers to review the Covid-19 scenario in the UT in view of rising cases in some States of the country.
Dr. Mehta impressed upon the officers to adopt prescribed level of random testing of those traveling from outside.
He directed the health authorities to issue the advisories to people so that the people remains safe and cautious.
He asked them to encourage people to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols.
He advised them to remain vigilant and use social and other media to create awareness among people so that no rumormongering occurs. He asked them to create digital health records of patients visiting hospitals and integrate the same with Rapid Assessment System (RAS) for quality feedback of public.
