Several dept in J&K fails to update websites with latest schemes, SoPs

Despite the passage of more than a year, several government departments have yet to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) laid down by the administration and update their websites with the latest schemes and guidelines.

Last year in January, the Jammu and Kashmir government-directed Administrative Secretaries, Deputy Commissioners, and Head of the Government Departments compiled the information on government websites with the latest schemes and guidelines.

The government had said that several government departments are non-functional with no information about Jammu and Kashmir government’s different schemes and guidelines.

Weeks later, a panel was constituted to frame SOPs for updating the government website.

As per the order issued by General Administration Department, a committee comprising of Secretary Information Technology Department, State Informatics Officer, National Informatics Centre, and representative of Jammu and Kashmir e-Governance Agency was directed to continue supervising the updating of official websites of various Government departments and districts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

However, nothing much has been done by government departments accepts a few.

According to the General Administration Department’s information, there are over 42 government websites. The News Now search went through every government department’s official website. It was found that out of 42 government department websites, 15 have yet to follow the guidelines and instructions laid down by the administration.

The websites of government departments such as the Home Department, Agriculture Department, Cooperative Department, Education Department, Estates Department, Public Work Department, Tribal Affairs Department, Industries Department, and Information Technology are functioning and provide information on acts, rules, guidelines, and schemes.

At the same time, government department websites lack such functioning. That include the Youth Services and Sports, Tourism Department, Revenue Department, Department of Science Technology, Forest Department, Higher Education Department, Service Selection Board, and Public Service Commission.

Other departments include Civil Aviation Department, Culture Department, Information Department, Mining Department, and Election Department. Ironically, a few websites are non-functional that one cannot open. The reason stands unknown.
