SAC closed, cases of backdoor appointments lying as ‘dumped’ files …!
When State Accountability Commission got closed two years back, hopes of justice for scores of aspirants got shattered in the infamous backdoor appointments made in erstwhile state Assembly. Resolute on fairness in the recruitment process, will LG Manoj Sinha order fresh probe into the fraudulent selections made in the House in a continuous manner ..…?
Not swerved by political implications, an undaunted LG Manoj Sinha won hearts of thousands of youth when he assured fairness in all recruitments in the UT post uproar in SI selections. This has rekindled some hope among those who fell victims to mechanism of ‘politico-officers nexus’ in backdoor appointments, over 100 alone in the J&K Assembly at regular intervals during different political regimes in last one decade. Ironically, even as cases were filed in the SAC, many of those who were appointed through backdoor have been elevated to higher posts or sent on promotions to other departments.
“There was some hope until the hearings continued in SAC, no matter at slow pace….. but with its closure now, who will take this forward “, said a senior advocate who has taken up the case in High Court simultaneously for one person who was engaged on temporary basis until the backdoor pick was finalized but suddenly disengaged without a reason. Pertinently, favouritism nepotism was the only criteria adopted in most of the selections at regular intervals and beneficiaries were taken at the behest of high profile politicians of almost all political parties.
When SAC took up the case of backdoor appointments in Assembly , the then authorities at the helm in their bid to explain irregularities in selection process in 2005 maintained in the notings(reply) to Commission the same plea which was given at the time of taking ‘handpicked’ lot on board – that “the office was facing a lot of difficulties due to dearth of class four employees…….Besides, the session of J&K Legislative Assembly is also being held shortly and it will not be possible to advertise the posts and conduct interviews during short span of time ….”,
Interestingly, it was stated that in absence of any advertisement, appointments were made on the basis of applications received by the Assembly Secretariat from time to time and their eligibility criteria was shown as ‘on basis of age, health, category and qualification’.
