Stop using CamScanner app or face action: H&ME to HoDs
Despite being banned by the Government of India, several Head of Departments (HoDs) in the Health Medical Education Department are using the CamScanner app following which the latter issued strict instructions.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Government of India, among other applications developed by Chinese Tech firms, banned the use of the CamScanner app in India conceiving a threat perception with regard to privacy and security of Indians as some of these Apps are stealing and surreptitiously transmitting user data in an unauthorized manner to servers located outside India.
Taking note of the issue, a circular has been issued by Waqar Talib, Under Secretary to the Government, Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department.
“It has been noticed that some Officers/Officials of Health and Medical Education Department are still continuing the use of these applications especially CamScanner while sharing official communications on digital platforms and uploading documents on websites, thereby defeating the very purpose of instructions notified in this regard by MEITY, Government of India”, the circular reads.
This violation of standing instructions has been viewed seriously by the authorities. Accordingly, it is impressed upon all the HODs of the Health and Medical Education Department to strictly adhere to the instructions issued on the subject and desist from using the Applications banned by MEITY, Government of India, it added.
“Any violations of the above instructions shall invite disciplinary action under the relevant conduct rules”, the circular further reads.
