Over 7 L penalised for flouting traffic norms in J&K this year

With ever increasing vehicular population plying on the roads, over 2500 booked every day for offences such as over speeding, overloading, riding without helmets or seatbelt besides other traffic violations in Jammu and Kashmir, as traffic department issued more than 7 lakh challans in first 9 months of 2022 with nearly one lakh lakh challans in alone in May month.

As per figures available with The News Now, total 705311 challans were issued to the people from January to September for various violations.

Furthermore, out of total 705311, 409873 challans were issued in Kashmir division while rest 295438 in Jammu division.

The maximum number of 95,153 challans has been issued in May month while the minimum 43,367 were issued in January.

Similarly in January, total 43367 challans were issued out of which City Srinagar booked 11003 offenders, Rural Kashmir-15000, Jammu City 10766, Rural Jammu-3498 and National Highway Ramban 3100.

Moreover with increasing the use of technology, the law-enforcement officers have been provided with modernised e-challan devices to penalise violations which so far booked 271382 offenders in the first nine months of 2022.

The collection through e-challan devices shows tremendous growth from 13562 challans in January to 27594 in September.

However the highest number of 360474 challans were issued under compound category while lowest 73455 were court challaned.

In January, out of 43367 challans, 13652 issued under e-challan category, 25407 under compound and 4398 under court challans.

In February, total 71364 challans were issued of which 29494 under e-challan, 35758 under compound and 6112 under court challans.

In March, total 80270 challans were issued, of which 36747 under e-challan, 36892 under compound and 6631 under court challan.

In April, a total 87531 challans were issued. 39867 issued under e-challan category, 40922 under compound and 6742 court challan.

In May out of 95163 challans were issued, 39551 issued under e-challans, 47174 compound and 8438 were court challaned.

In June out of total 86117 challans, 31230 were challaned under e-challan category, 43802 under compound and 11085 offenders court challaned.

In July, total 79491 challaned were issued of which 25558 in e challan category, 43498 in compound and 10435 court challaned.

In August total 78503 challans, total 27779 were issued under e challans category, 40995 under compound and 9729 under court challaned.

In September month total 83505 challaned were issued to offenders out of which 27594 were issued under e challan category, 46026 compound and 9885 were court challaned.
