Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has said that India has governance that makes it imperative for the system to be highly favourable to women. Delivering the Platinum Jubilee Address at Miranda House, University of Delhi today on Role of Women in Indian Parliament, Mr. Dhankhar said, the girls these days are in defence forces in combat positions and as fighter pilots and girls are being given admission in Sainik School. He said, there can be no equality in society if there is no gender equality. The Vice President said, gender equality has to be in substance not form and its manifestation has to be a ground reality.

He said, the women are the change and they are catalyzing change. Mr. Dhankhar said, the world belongs to them and the world has to be shaped by them.

The Vice President said, their gender signifies virtuosity, sublimity, service and they are natural handholders. He asked them to never allow themselves to be on the backfoot. Mr. Dhankhar said, the role of women in parliament is enormous and their presence by itself will surcharge the atmosphere. Their experiences since birth, the life they have lived through, the challenges they have faced would help evolution of the policies and resolution of larger issue. He said, in the country constitutionally structured reservation for women was provided in Panchayat institutions, but males were not prepared to yield ground. The Vice President expressed happiness that the grandmothers and mothers snatched that right. He said, now no one can dare to occupy the seat meant for women elected representatives.
