Assembly Session Turns Chaotic as PDP Introduces Resolution Against Article 370 Abrogation

KNT: The first session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly witnessed chaos on Monday when Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Waheed-ur-Rehmaan Parra introduced a resolution opposing the Centre’s 2019 decision to revoke Article 370.

Parra congratulated veteran National Conference leader Abdul Rahim Rather on his election and drew parallels with the Constituent Assembly of 1951, when NC founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah was in power. “Like the Constituent Assembly of Sheikh Abdullah’s time, this Assembly too is a transition to negotiate our relation,” Parra said.

The PDP legislator’s move sparked a ruckus, with BJP members objecting and demanding the resolution be discarded. “This is not appropriate on the first day. Such matters should not be introduced in this House,” said BJP Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma.

However, Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) MLA Sheikh Khursheed and Peoples Conference chief Sajad Lone supported Parra’s move. Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather promised to review the resolution, saying, “I have not reviewed this yet. Allow me to examine it.” [KNT]
