Waheed Parra slams Govt’s ‘hypocritical’ minority policy”
PDP legislator Waheed Parra slammed the Jammu and Kashmir government’s notification requiring candidates seeking admission to MD/MS courses at a private medical college in Jammu to submit documents under minority Hindu and NRI quotas. Parra argued that this policy exposes a blatant double standard, undermining proportional representation and justice, and perpetuating inequality against the communities it claims to uplift.
He highlighted the inconsistency in classifying Muslims as a national minority for school scholarships but penalizing them as the local majority for college admissions and government jobs. “Nowhere else in India is the open merit quota slashed to just 40%, shutting the majority community out of opportunities they are already denied at the national level,” Parra said.
Parra questioned the logic behind declaring Hindus minorities in specific states or districts while denying the same safeguards to Muslims across India. He criticized the abrogation of Article 370, saying it has institutionalized exclusion and double standards, rather than promoting equality.
The PDP legislator urged the government to end regional demographic manipulations that marginalize communities, ensuring true equality prevails. [KNT]
