Himachal woman faces FIR despite being forgiven by Kashmiri shawl sellers

Despite the victims’ forgiveness and request to drop charges, the Himachal Pradesh Police have registered an FIR against a woman Block Development Council (BDC) member, Sushmi Devi, for harassing two Kashmiri shawl sellers in Surjanpur village of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh.

The Government proceeded with the FIR vide number 86/24, under Sections 196(1) and 299 of the BNS Act.The incident had sparked widespread outrage after a video showed Sushmi Devi asking the Kashmiri shawl sellers to leave Himachal Pradesh.

 Director General of Police Himachal Pradesh, Dr. Atul Verma, informed the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association that strict action has been taken under the law. Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri confirmed the registration of an  FIR against the accused stating that it will be a deterrent for others. [KNT]
