CM Omar Responds, Promises Fair Resolution As His Party MP Braces for Protests

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and senior Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) leader, Omar Abdullah, took to Twitter on Sunday to address public concerns regarding the reservation policy. His remarks come as protests are being planned in Srinagar to highlight a perceived sense of injustice tied to the policy.
In his tweet, Omar emphasized that the JKNC had committed to examining all aspects of the reservation issue in its manifesto released before the assembly elections. He explained that as part of this commitment, the government constituted a cabinet sub-committee to deliberate and work towards fulfilling this promise.
“The sub-committee was recently notified and is now in the process of beginning its work by engaging with all stakeholders. The aim is to ensure that every voice is heard, and a fair decision is reached through due process,” Omar wrote.
He also acknowledged the legal challenge the reservation policy faces in the Hon’ble High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, stating that the government is bound by any judgment after all legal options are exhausted.
Addressing the upcoming protests in Srinagar, Omar recognized the democratic right to peaceful demonstrations. “I would be the last person to deny anyone that right,” he tweeted. However, he urged protestors to understand that the issue has neither been ignored nor swept under the carpet.
“Your government is doing what any responsible government would do—making sure everyone is heard and a fair decision arrived at after completing due process,” Omar reassured.
The tweet comes amidst heightened public sentiment over the reservation issue, with various groups voicing concerns about equity and representation. While Omar’s remarks are aimed at calming tensions, the planned protest in Srinagar highlights the urgency with which many feel the matter should be addressed. (ANB)
