Christmas Celebrated with Religious Fervor Amid Cold Wave in Kashmir

Amid chill, the Christian community in Kashmir celebrated Christmas on Wednesday with great fervor and enthusiasm. Churches at different places were beautifully adorned with electric lanterns and festive decorations for the occasion.

The largest gathering in Srinagar took place at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Lal Chowk, where men, women, and children participated in special prayers. The 127-year-old St. Luke’s Church in Srinagar also saw a significant turnout of devotees from early morning.

Worshippers emphasized the spirit of Christmas, stating that the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth carries a universal message of peace, love, and compassion.

A female devotee said that special prayers were offered for the end of the prolonged dry spell in Kashmir, which has been a growing concern for the region.

Christmas festivities included the exchange of sweets and gifts among community members, with revelers dressed in colorful attire congratulating each other.

Father Prem of the Holy Family Catholic Church highlighted the importance of fostering mutual brotherhood and reconciliation, urging people to support one another in times of pain and share in each other’s joy. [KNT]
