J&K Students Association Demands Clarity on Reservation Policy, Calls for Immediate Action

KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the government’s ambiguity regarding the reservation policy, calling for an official statement and immediate action. Following a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the government assured that a cabinet sub-committee would review the policy within six months. However, the association has deemed this timeline inadequate and criticized the lack of transparency.

National Convenor Nasir Khuehami stated that no official minutes or statements have been issued since the meeting, reflecting a lack of seriousness on the government’s part. The association demands a streamlined and inclusive sub-committee that fairly represents all stakeholders, including students and independent voices, to ensure impartial recommendations.

The group also called for a halt to ongoing recruitments under the current policy until the review is completed. They emphasized that six months is too long to wait, urging the government to expedite the process within three months to avoid further mistrust among the student community.

President Ummar Jamal criticized contradictory statements from government officials and ministers, citing them as evidence of an incoherent approach to the issue. He stressed that delays and a lack of clarity could lead to greater resentment and called on the government to act decisively to restore trust and address student concerns. [KNT]
