Kashmiri Pandit Delegation Meets Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, Seeks Resolution on Relief Disbursement
NEW DELHI, May 19: A delegation of Kashmiri Pandits met with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today at her residence in Shalimar Bagh to discuss the long-pending issue of stalled relief disbursements to displaced community members residing in the Delhi-NCR region.
The delegation was led by Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo—senior BJP and Kashmiri Pandit leader, author, columnist, and human rights defender. Other members included Sushil Hashia (President, JKIDWS), K.K. Bhujoo (President, Vitasta Kashmir Desk), Vinod Saraf, Deepak Handoo, and Omesh Ganjoo.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the distress caused by the disruption of relief payments, which had been halted due to administrative lapses during the previous AAP government under Arvind Kejriwal. Thousands of affected families have been waiting for resolution for nearly a year.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta gave a patient hearing and assured the delegation that their concerns would be addressed promptly. She also issued immediate instructions to relevant officials to take action on the matter.
The displaced Kashmiri Pandit community has been actively raising this issue, expressing hope that the newly formed BJP-led administration in Delhi will deliver on its promises. Based on the CM’s assurances and those received from senior ministers and bureaucrats, the community leaders have announced a public programme to be held on May 25, 2025, in New Delhi.
Ashish Sood, Delhi’s Home and Education Minister, will attend the event as the chief guest. The community now awaits the government’s concrete steps following today’s commitments made by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
