International Day Against Drug Abuse Observed Across the Country
Srinagar, , ANB Desk: The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed with renewed commitment across Indiaon Thursday, with various government agencies, law enforcement bodies, educational institutions, and NGOs organizing awareness programs, rallies, seminars, and cultural events to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
The United Nations has been observing June 26 every year as a global day of action to strengthen international cooperation in combating drug abuse and illegal drug trafficking. The theme for this year focuses on “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention.” It highlights the importance of adopting science-based approaches to prevent drug use, especially among the youth.
According to news service, associated news bureau, ANB, In cities and rural areas alike, police departments conducted community outreach campaigns, while schools and colleges held debates, poster-making competitions, and interactive sessions involving students and parents. Rehabilitation centers also opened their doors for awareness visits, aiming to reduce stigma and encourage treatment.
Officials stressed the urgent need to protect the young generation from falling prey to substance abuse, emphasizing that a collective effort by society, family, and institutions is essential to fight this growing menace.
