Relentless Rain Shuts NH-44, Doda-Kishtwar Road; Traffic, SSG, Mughal Roads Remain Open
Jammu, KNT: Relentless monsoon rains continued to wreak havoc across Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, forcing the closure of the strategic Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and the Doda-Kishtwar Road after fresh landslides and shooting stones rendered the routes unsafe for vehicular movement.
According to the Traffic Police, NH-44 has been closed at multiple vulnerable stretches following fresh landslides and continuous shooting stones, disrupting the Valley’s principal road link with the rest of the country. The Doda-Kishtwar Road has also been shut after heavy rainfall triggered hazardous conditions along the route.
The prolonged spell of rain has affected road connectivity across several districts, with authorities closely monitoring vulnerable locations where further landslides and flash floods cannot be ruled out.
Officials said the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road and the Mughal Road remain open for traffic. However, commuters have been advised to undertake travel only if absolutely necessary and to obtain the latest traffic status before commencing their journey, as weather conditions continue to remain unpredictable.
Traffic authorities cautioned that restoration work on the affected routes would commence only after the weather improves and the threat of fresh landslides subsides. They urged motorists to strictly adhere to official advisories and avoid venturing onto closed roads
The latest closures come amid widespread disruption caused by the ongoing monsoon, which has triggered flash floods, landslides and damage to roads and public infrastructure in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the past few days. [KNT]
