12,614 medical, paramedical posts vacant across J&K health institutions
Srinagar, KNT: As many as 12,614 posts of medical and paramedical personnel are lying vacant across health institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, the government informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
The vacancies include 2,891 Medical Officer posts and 9,723 posts for paramedics and nurses, according to details provided by the Health and Medical Education Department in response to a starred question by MLA Agha Syed Muntazir Mehdi.
The government said steps were being taken to fill the vacancies through regular recruitment while interim arrangements were being used where required.
It said 416 Medical Officers selected through the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission had been received by the department, with appointment orders issued to 335 candidates. The remaining cases are under process.
The department has also referred 1,567 paramedical and non-gazetted posts to the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board for recruitment.
Pending regular appointments, personnel are being engaged under the National Health Mission and on academic arrangement basis wherever feasible and administratively permissible, the government said. [KNT]
