Srinagar Administration Fences Budshah Bridge to Prevent Falls into Jhelum, More Vulnerable Points to Be Covered

Srinagar, KNT: The Srinagar administration has completed the installation of fencing on Budshah Bridge to prevent people from falling into the Jhelum River, with Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo saying similar safety measures will be extended to other vulnerable locations in the city.

Labroo, who visited the bridge and interacted with reporters, said the absence of proper fencing had posed a risk to people using the bridge, prompting the administration to take up the work as a safety measure.

“Due to the absence of proper fencing on Budshah Bridge, there was a risk of people falling into the Jhelum. We have completed the fencing at a low cost without compromising the city’s aesthetics, and hope it will help prevent such incidents,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

He said the fencing had been installed at a low cost by the Roads and Buildings Department in coordination with other concerned departments, while ensuring that the appearance of Srinagar city was not compromised.

The administration expects the measure to help prevent accidental falls and suicide attempts from the bridge. Labroo said other vulnerable points would also be identified for similar protective measures.

The initiative comes amid concerns over public safety at locations along the Jhelum where inadequate protective barriers can expose people to the risk of falling into the river. [KNT]
