Sensex rises 490 points, Nifty surges 154 points to trade at 17,465

The Sensex and the Nifty today climbed more than 0.8 percent in the afternoon trade. Both indices gained amid positive cues from global share markets. The Sensex was trading above 58,900 level while the Nifty was trading above the 17,450 points.

The Sensex rose 490 points, or 0.84 percent, to trade at 58,901. The Nifty also surged 154 points, or 0.89 percent, to trade at 17,465.

In the forex market, the rupee also appreciated seven paise to trade at 82 rupees and 29 paise against the US dollar in afternoon deals.
