Rs.7500 Crore invested for power infra in J&K: MHA

The Ministry of Home Affairs in its annual report has said that Rs.7500 Cr are being invested in system-strengthening projects for the transmission sector under the energy sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has further said that 8 lakh smart meters (cumulative) will be installed in Jammu and Kashmir by March 2023.

Presently, J&K has the generation sector harnessed the hydro potential of approximately 3500 MW and five more projects are under implementation which is expected to add another 4,870 MWs, the report reads.

The report further reads that 1000 MVA transformation capacity has already been added at 220 KV level, Creation/augmentation of six 220/ 132 KV Grid Stations and 875 MVA transformation capacities added at 132 KV level in Jammu and Kashmir under the transmission sector.

Regarding the strengthening distribution system, the annual report of the Ministry of Home Affairs read that 190 receiving stations were created/ augmented with a capacity of 33/11 KV, and 5,742 new Distribution Transformers have been installed. Also, 10 projects which were held up/ languishing for nearly a decade have been revived and completed, the report reads.

Adding that report reads that Jammu and Kashmir have achieved 100% household electrification under SAUBHAGYA Scheme before the target date and 3,57,405 beneficiaries were covered.

Further, electric grid power has been extended to the remotest hamlets of Petgam, Bungam, Chinab, Dindoo & Watsar in hilly areas of Chatroo, Doda with the laying of 17 Km of HT Line and Installing 4 Distribution Transformers.

Regarding the 100% smart prepaid metering, the annual report of the Ministry of Home Affairs read that about 2 lakh meters were installed by March 2022 while 8 lakh meters (cumulative) will be installed by March 2023.
