Transporters to hold Chakka Jam

All Jammu and Kashmir Transporters Welfare Association Sunday called for a complete ‘Chakka Jam’ on March 30 as a mark of protest against the Jammu and Kashmir administration. Vijay Singh Chib, President of All J&K Transport Welfare Association on Sunday said that the condition of the transporters of J&K is awful but no one is helping them to cross the sinking boat.

“The catastrophic floods in the state in the year 2014 completely ruined the business of the transporters, but since then no one has taken care of them. Every time the transporters had to resort to demonstrations to get justice and rights, but despite this only a few of their demands were fulfilled”, he said. Chib added, “From the year 2020 till today, the transporters have not been able to recover from the losses due to the Corona epidemic. The amount of assistance received from the government is also like cumin in the mouth of a camel”.

He made it clear that if their legitimate demands are not met, then the proposed one-day token strike of March 30 from Lakhanpur to Uri in Kashmir will be converted into an indefinite strike. He has appealed to the state’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in this matter. The key demands of the transporters included, increasing The fitness of 20 years old commercial vehicles, despite the orders of the Transport Commissioner, the RTOs, Jammu and Srinagar are not renewing the fitness of the ARTO vehicles and withdrawal of orders for installation of Vehicle Tracking Devices on commercial vehicles.
