Jammu, June 18, 2022: Arvin Shah, an internationally established Freelance Writer and translator talks about Role of Youth in Preservation of Culture and Heritage and its importance for preserving Kashmiri culture.

In our series of ThePagahConversation Arvin Shah talks to Bharti Kaul about the importance of preservation of mother tongue and cultural heritage of Kashmiri Pandits.

Arvin Shah delves deep into the concept of culture and heritage and says that people who have no clue about the real culture and the importance of heritage and its preservation saying some people feel that our culture can not be carried forward in new realities of the modern world but the reality is that culture and tradition is something different and it is integrated with our lifestyle and our day today life.

Arvin Shah says that the role of youth to preserve traditional culture of Kashmiri Pandits is of great importance and they must understand that the tradition and culture is how we live our life and deal with the day today dealings with our own people and other people who belong to other cultures.

Giving some Kashmiri examples he says what Kashmiris says as Band Baandav and our closeness with our real-life style is what is called culture and heritage that our youth has to take forward.

He says that this does not mean our youth have to shun the modern life style but keeping our traditional culture alongwith the modern life style is the real challenge and that is why he says Lassun Bassun and Band Baandav is what we need to carry forward.

Arvin Shah says that in Kashmir we knew our whole clan by name and relation and that is what is needed to keep close touch with our clans which is not a bad thing but instead is of immense help in times of crisis.

He suggests that even simple welfare messages in a closed family groups is also important to take this culture forward and one must keep this culture alive that was the backbone of Kashmiri tradition and heritage.
