Sensex, Nifty posted modest gains in afternoon trade

The Sensex and the Nifty today posted modest gains in the afternoon trade. Both stock indices added amid positive cues from global share markets. The Sensex was trading near the 59,000 mark while the Nifty was trading near 17,600 level.

The Sensex gained 185 points, or 0.31 percent, to trade at 58,960 while the Nifty was trading 62 points up, or 0.35 percent, to trade at 17,584 when the reports last came in. In the forex market, the rupee was trading flat at 79 rupees and 89 pasie against the US dollar in the afternoon deals.
