LG chairs UHQ meet, reviews security situation across J&K
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday reviewed the prevailing security situation and the political scenario erupted post proposed increase in seats by the Delimitation Commission at Unified Headquarters meeting chaired by him here at Convention Centre.
Sources in the administration said that Sinha was briefed on the overall security situation by the top brass of the security agencies and the measures taken to deal with possible challenges.
“LG Sinha chaired the meeting here this morning in which top brass from the Army, Police, paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies briefed him on issues related to security, public interest and law and order in J&K,” sources said.
The meeting lasted for around three hours, they added.
Sources further said that LG Sinha was briefed about the prevailing security situation across the Union Territory, bordering belts and the overall law and order situation.
“The LG also reviewed the power restoration scenario in Jammu and Kashmir in the aftermath of the strike by the PDD employees that was called off on Monday midnight and the workers resumed their duties this morning,” they said.
However, sources said that a rise in political activities after the delimitation commission on Monday proposed six seats for Jammu and one for Kashmir was also reportedly discussed in the meeting.
“The LG asked the security agencies to keep up the good work and stay alert for meeting any possible challenges on the law and order and security front,” sources added.
Notably, People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), an umbrella organization of some Kashmir based political parties termed the proposal by Delimitation Commission as “divisive” for Jammu and Kashmir and decided to stage a protest against the draft on January 01, 2022.
The Peoples Conference and Apni Party also reject the proposal.

Officers of police, army, CRPF, BSF and Intelligence were present in the meeting.
Sources revealed that a PowerPoint presentation was also presented in the meeting on various aspects of security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, status of infiltration on LoC, operational preparedness of forces besides data pertaining to anti-militancy operations, law and order scenario.
Earlier on January 21, 2021, LG Sinha chaired the first UHQ meeting ever since he assumed the charge of LG of the UT.
Moreover, the delimitation commission has proposed to increase one seat each in Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar and Rajouri districts in the Jammu region and Kupwara in the Kashmir Valley.
The panel’s recommendation has come under sharp criticism from NC, PDP, PC and other parties in Jammu and Kashmir terming it biased.
