7 pregnant women among 125 test +Ve

As many as 125 people including seven pregnant women tested positive for the COVID-19 infections across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Moreover, one more fatality pushed the death toll to 4,515 in the Union Territory.

“Seven pregnant women were tested positive for the infection at Lal Ded Hospital in Kashmir,” Medical Superintended of the hospital, Dr. Muzaffar.

He added that among 7 pregnant women, 6 were asymptomatic.

“Six women were sent to home isolation while on lady, who was in labor pain, admitted to hospitals,” he said adding the Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were conducted in premises in daily basis.

Among fresh cases, 28 were from the Jammu division and 97 from the Kashmir division of the Union Territory, they said.

Srinagar district recorded the highest of 47 cases followed by 20 cases in Jammu district.

There are 1,308 active cases in the Union Territory, while the number of recovered patients was 3,34,338, the officials said.

The death toll in the Union Territory due to the pandemic was 4,515 as one fresh fatality was reported in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the officials said there were 50 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) in the Union Territory as no fresh case was reported since last evening.

According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 340161 positive cases, 1308are Active Positive (338 in Jammu Division and 970in Kashmir Division), 334338 have recovered and 4515 have died; 2196 in Jammu division and 2319in Kashmir division.

The Bulletin further said that out of 18804238 test results available, 340161 samples have tested positive and 18464077 samples have been tested as negative till date. Besides, 53,316 COVID tests have been conducted in last 24 hours.

Till date 5049215 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 7916persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 1308 in isolation and 431848 in home surveillance. Besides, 4603628 persons have completed their surveillance period.

Providing district-wise breakup for positive cases reported today, the Bulletin said that Srinagar reported 47 cases, Baramulla reported 17 cases, Budgam reported 09 cases, Pulwama reported 01case, Kupwara reported 09 cases, Anantnag reported 02 cases, Bandipora reported 06 cases, Ganderbal reported 03 cases, Kulgam reported 03 cases while as Shopian reported no fresh cases for today.

Similarly, Jammu reported 20 cases, Udhampur reported 01case, Rajouri reported 03 cases, Doda reported 01case, Kathua reported no case, Samba reported no case, Poonch reported 03caseswhile as Kishtwar, Ramban and Reasi reported no fresh cases for today.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir administration reviewed the public health system preparedness for the new COVID-19 variant Omicron after detection of three cases here, an official spokesman said.

Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta chaired a meeting to review the public health system’s preparedness for the new variant, which is reportedly three to four times more infectious than the Delta variant, the spokesman said.
Three cases of Omicron variant were reported in Jammu on Tuesday, all of whom are without any travel history and are now being monitored.

The Chief Secretary directed the district administration to enhance testing and contact tracing for positive patients and closely trace the infection trajectory to establish micro-containment zones at an early stage, the spokesman said.

Additionally, he said all Deputy Commissioners were directed to ensure strict enforcement of COVID-appropriate behaviour, COVID-19 SOPs and protocols, and micro-containment zones, besides regulating large gatherings.
“Any breach on these accounts will lead to imposition of night curfews and further restrictions,” Mehta added.
Moreover, the spokesman said divisional and district administrations were asked to establish buffer zones around the declared micro-containment zones and monitor the spread of the disease to guide further actions.
“All line departments were directed to appoint one nodal officer for ensuring COVID-appropriate behaviour adherence across all government offices with a special focus on industries and transport, the spokesman said.
The health department was asked to remain in a state of readiness by gearing up their manpower and machinery and firming up the inventory of oxygen supply and medicines, he said.

The health and medical education department was asked to ensure proper functioning of COVID-related infrastructure, including COVID-19 dedicated hospitals, ventilators, oxygen supported beds and oxygen plants.
The department was also asked to monitor international travellers through the Air Suvidha portal and accordingly make COVID containment arrangements to regulate their testing, quarantine and treatment in respective cases, the spokesman said.
