Re-appear students of X to XII students to qualify exams in live 5 years: JKBOSE

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has said that from now onwards that re-appear students of class 10th, 11th and 12th shall have to qualify or complete the examination within a period of live five years, irrespective of the number of chances or till the relevant course or Scheme of studies is in vogue, whichever is earlier.

Whereas, only such students who attain the age of 14 years plus shall be eligible for appearing in Secondary School Examination (Class 10th). The decision has been taken by the Board of Governors at the meeting held last month.

Two separate notices have been issued in this regard by Dr. Farooq Ahmed Peer, Director Academics Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education.

“In the first notification, the JKBOSE states that in pursuance of the decision taken by the Board of Governors at its meeting held on 11th of February, 2022, it is hereby notified for information of all the concerned that the regulation governing number of chances to qualify/complete an examination without any restriction, availed by the candidate/s of Secondary School Examination (Class 10th) and Higher Secondary examination Part-I & II (Classes 11& 12th), as the case may be, is hereby withdrawn”, it reads.

It is further notified that henceforth the candidates placed under reappear category for the first time or placed under reappear category previously in any such examination shall have to qualify/complete the examination within a period of live (5) years, irrespective of a number of chances or till the relevant course/Scheme of studies is in vogue, whichever is earlier, it reads.

This is issued in supersession of all such previous notifications issued in this regard from time to time and shall come into force from the Annual (Regular) 2022 Summer Zone examinations and Annual/Bi-annual 2021-22 (private) examination to be held in Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division and Kashmir Division/Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division/ UT of Ladakh respectively, and onwards.

“However, all such private candidates who have been placed under reappear category prior to four (04) years or earlier shall be allowed one (01) mercy chance in Annual/Biannual (Private) 2022-2023 in respect of Kashmir Division/Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division/UT of Ladakh and Annual/Biannual (Private) 2023 in respect of Summer zone areas of Jammu Division in addition to ensuing Annual/Bi-annual(Private) 2021-2022 and 2022 sessions respectively to complete the examination failing which they shall have to appear afresh in all the subjects thereafter”, the notification reads.

“For example, The students who have appeared in Annual (Regular) Session 2017 or Annual/ Biannual (Private) 2017 in Kashmir Division/Winter zone area of Jammu Division /UT of Ladakh or earlier, and have not qualified the examination so far, shall be allowed to appear in the ensuing Annual/Biannual (Private) 2021-22 examination and mercy chance to be held in Annual/Bi-annual (Private) examination 2022-23”, it added.

“Likewise the students who have appeared in Annual (Regular) Session 2018 or Annual/Biannual (Private) 2018 in Summer zone areas of Jammu Division or earlier, and have not qualified the examination so far shall be allowed to appear in Annual/Bi-annual (Private) 2022 examination and mercy chance to be held in Annual/Bi-annual (Private) 2023”, it added.

In another notification issued that the JKBOSE states that in pursuance of the decision taken by the Board of Governors at its meeting held on 11thof February. 2022. It is hereby notified for information of all the concerned that the relaxation In age limit up to six (6) months prescribed for appearing in Secondary School Examination (Class 10th) which was being given to the students is hereby revoked.

It is as such, further notified that henceforth only such students who attain the age of 14 years (+) on 1st November in case of Kashmir Division/ Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division/UT of Ladakh and 1st of May in the case of Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division shall be eligible for appearing in Secondary School Examination (Class 10th).

Further, as per the notification, no candidate of less than 13 (+) years of age as on 1st of November and 1st of May preceding the year in which he/she has to appear in the Secondary School Examination (Class 10th)shall now be eligible for registration in 9th class.

“This notification shall be effective from the Annual (Regular) examination 2023 in case of Kashmir Division/Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division/ UT of Ladakh and Annual (Regular) 2024 in the case of Summer Zone as of Jammu Division, and onwards”, it reads.
