Sensex, Nifty plunge more than one percent in afternoon trade

The Sensex and the Nifty today plunged more than one percent in the afternoon trade. Both stock indices were trading down amid negative cues from global share markets. The Sensex was trading below 58,200 mark while the Nifty was trading below 17,400 level.

The Sensex declined 683 points, or 1.16 percent, to trade at 58,151 while the Nifty fell 199 points, or 1.13 percent, to trade at 17,360 when the reports last came in. In the forex market, the rupee weakened 18 paise to trade at 80 rupees and five paise against the US dollar in the afternoon deals.
