Meghalaya: Leaders of political parties hold public meetings to woo voters for upcoming Assembly polls
In poll-bound Meghalaya, leaders of all political parties are holding public meetings, community meetings to woo voters in all the three regions of Garo, Khasi and Jaintia Hills. Instead of mega public rallies, leaders are relying more on door-to-door campaigns and small meetings. Star campaigners of national parties are yet to kickstart their campaigns in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union minister Nitin Gadkari, BJP-ruled Chief Ministers of North Eastern states are star campaigners of the BJP. Senior leader Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi are among star campaigners of Congress party while Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee is the star campaigner of Trinmool Congress.
Polling will be held on 27th February for the 60-member state assembly. Sources said that all campaigners are dwelling upon issue of development, women empowerment and corruption in the state.
The star campaigner of ruling NPP is Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. He is holding multiple public meetings in assembly constituencies of Garo Hills region. Candidates of all parties are not leaving any stone unturned to garner support of the electorates.
BJP state leaders Ernest Mawrie, Alexander L Hek, Bernard Marak along with party national leader Tarun Chug addressed meetings in assembly segments of Jirang, Nongpoh and Shillong.
Trinmool Congress leader and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma also addressed public meetings in Jirang in support of party candidate. Senior Congress leader Vincent H Pala also addressed election meetings in support of his party candidates. 13 political parties including 44 Independents are trying their political fortunes.
