Srinagar, September 20, 2022: Sheikh Haneef, renowned writer, actor and director and educationist talks about his career in acting, writing, direction and education in conversation with renowned broadcaster of J&K Rashid Nizami

In our series of TheRightConversation with the Right Person, Sheikh Haneef talks to Rashid Nizami on his career in acting, writing, direction and education.

Sheikh Haneef as an actor needs no introduction to Kashmiris and is a household name due to his acting skills besides being a equally able writer and director.

He was also an educationist by profession and retired as Deputy Secretary from J&K Board of School Education and hence has a multifaceted personality and very strong views on preserving the mother tongue particularly for the new generation who have been shying away from it due to prevalent trends in the society.

About his acting Sheikh Haneef says that he started his journey in acting 1973 by joining a theatre group by the name Navrang Natsar Cultural Institute headed by Bharat Bhushan Dilbar.

Later he started his own theatre group Kashmir Valley Theatre in 1976 which is active till date.

He is known for his comedy as he started his career through a comedy skit “Khangale`” directed by Bharat Bhushan Dilbar and has acted in around 12 full length Dramas and serials as due to turmoil the theatre activity got stalled in Kashmir Valley.

He recalls the days of his theatre prior to 1979 when he won the best actor award for his play “Yahoo” directed by Bharat Bhushan Dilbar and written by RK Braroo which also brought best actress award to Anita Matoo for the same play in 1980.

Sheikh Haneef has written around 35 Radio plays till date and was an active radio artist.
