Stock Market: Sensex gains 493 points, Nifty surges 133 points to trade at 17,319

The Sensex and the Nifty today climbed more than half a percent in the afternoon trade. Both indices rose amid positive cues from a majority of global share markets. The Sensex was trading above 58,400 level while the Nifty was trading above 17,300 points.

The Sensex gained 493 points, or 0.85 percent, to trade at 58,413. The Nifty also surged 133 points, or 0.78 percent, to trade at 17,319.

In the forex market, the rupee weakened six paise to trade at 82 rupees and 42 paise against the US dollar in afternoon deals.
