14.37 crore active beneficiaries in country under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme, Minister of Rural development says
A total of 14.37 crore active beneficiaries are in country under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme, and there has been an increase in the number of person-days under the scheme compared to last year.
In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Minister of Rural development Giriraj Singh said that Mahatma Gandhi NREGA is a demand driven scheme. He said, a total of 221.60 crore person-days has been generated so far (as on 30.11.2023), which is more than the person-days generated during the same period in the last financial year, which is 208.74 crore person-days (as on 30.11.2022).

He said that the beneficiary who has worked during the last three financial years is called an active beneficiary. If an adult member of a household of the rural area does not demand for the work during the last three previous financial years, that member will not be in the list of active beneficiaries.
