Nine Killed As Sleeper Bus Catches Fire In Greater Noida, PM Modi Announces Ex-Gratia

At least nine passengers were burnt to death after a sleeper bus caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida late last night. Several other passengers managed to escape by jumping out through the windows. According to police, the incident took place around midnight near Dayanatpur village under the Jewar police station area.

The Bihar-registered sleeper bus was travelling from Noida towards Agra and reportedly had around 35 passengers on board. The bus suddenly caught fire near Dayanatpur village. The driver managed to pull the vehicle over to the side of the expressway, but the flames spread rapidly, triggering panic among the passengers. As the fire intensified, passengers tried to get out of the bus. Several managed to escape by jumping through the windows.

However, nine passengers were trapped and died in the fire. Soon after receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Jewar police station and rescue teams reached the spot and began evacuation and firefighting operations. Jewar police has filed an FIR in this regard and started the investigation. Police said that the identities of the nine deceased passengers have not yet been ascertained.

Efforts are underway to identify the victims and inform their families. The cause of the fire is yet to be established. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the bus fire and directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy on a bus in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Extending condolences to those who have lost their loved ones, they prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.

The Prime Minister has also announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given fifty thousand rupees.
