Key administrative post lying vacant in Health department

The lackadaisical attitude of the people at the helm of J&K health department can be gauged from the fact that the key administrative positions of the department are lying vacant in the Jammu Health department since long.
The posts lying vacant have been causing inconvenience to patients as well fellow employees most of them are key decision making positions. At present many officers are holding three or more additional charges and it seems extremely difficult for one officer to efficiently run two or more positions.

The posts lying vacant at a time when Covid is raising its head again is likely to have adverse consequences on the healthcare system of Jammu region.

Only a few posts were filled by the Government on December 21 in spite of the fact that the maximum number of posts are still vacant for one year.

It is learnt that the key post of deputy Director Health Services (Schemes) Jammu is vacant for the last three months, the post of assistant Director, Health Education Bureau Jammu is vacant for the last eight months.
The post of Assistant Director Rehbar e Sehat Jammu is vacant for more than two years, the post of state Veneriologist Jammu is vacant for the last six months, the post of State Malariologist is vacant for the last two months. There is no Medical Superintendent in place in SDH Jagti Nagrota for the last four months. The position of Block Medical Officer Nowshera, Rajouri has been lying vacant for the last one month.

Moreover, there is wrangling going over the post of medical superintendent Government Medical College Jammu- as the individual recently posted by the government has been challenged by another doctor, with the plea that the incumbent is not eligible to occupy the post. Now with the matter in the Court, the uncertainty is looming over the functioning of the top healthcare institution of the region.

With the recent spurt in Covid cases in China, US and Japan, J&K government a couple of days back has

reactivated monitoring cells, infrastructure and started random testing of international arrivals.

It is pertinent to mention that a couple of days back a delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Medical Employees Federation Jammu met with Bhupinder Kumar Administrative Secretary Health and Medical Education department at civil Secretariat, Jammu. The delegation members demanded to fill the vacant posts in the department of health immediately.
