Vice President C P Radhakrishnan Inaugurates 9th India International Water Week In New Delhi

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan today inaugurated 9th India International Water Week 2026 in New Delhi. Addressing the occasion, he stressed the precise usage of water and highlighted that it should be conserved. He underlined that Water Week is a significant platform to bring all stakeholders to deliberate upon the processing challenges of water management. He said that no single institution, sector or State can address the challenges related to water in isolation and called upon greater cooperation and a coordinated approach.

Vice President further emphasised the need for a multi-stakeholder and multi-dimensional approach that brings together technological innovation, sound policy, scientific knowledge, local experience and community participation. He said such cooperation must extend across administrative and geographical boundaries to ensure sustainable, equitable and effective management of water resources.

Mr Radhakrishnan said that climate change is making rainfall patterns increasingly uncertain, necessitating systems capable of managing both periods of excessive rainfall and prolonged dry spells. He stressed that river-basin management, groundwater recharge, rainwater harvesting and efficient irrigation must work together as part of an integrated approach to water management.

Jal Shakti Minister C.R Patil highlighted the importance of water conservation and said that government is committed in providing safe and sufficient drinking water to every citizen in the country. He said that Water is a shared resource, and therefore, water security is also a shared responsibility.

The theme of this year’s water week is Climate Resilient Water Management. The five-day international event will provide a multidisciplinary platform bringing together policymakers, global water leaders, experts, researchers, practitioners, industry, civil society and young professionals for dialogue, knowledge exchange, innovation and partnerships towards addressing emerging water challenges and advancing a water-secure and climate-resilient future.
